Naomi Ellen Watts (born 28 September 1968) is an British actress from the UK. When her family relocated to Australia and she made her film debut with the film For Love Alone (1986) and later appeared in three TV series: Hey Dad.. (1990), Brides of Christ (1991) and Home and Away (1991) as well as the feature film Flirting (1991). After making the move to the United States, Watts initially was a struggle as an actress taking roles in small-scale films until she starred in David Lynch's psychological thriller Mulholland Drive in 2001 as an actress aspiring to be. Her rise to fame internationally was triggered by this part. Watts then played a tormented journalist in the horror remake The Ring (2002). Her performance as grieving mother in Alejandro's 21 Grams (2003) was nominated for an Academy Award. Her profile continued to grow through her starring roles in I Heart Huckabees (2004), King Kong (2005), Eastern Promises (2007), and The International (2009). Watts was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in The Impossible (2012) as Maria Bennett. In the 2010s she was in films as Birdman (2014) St. Vincent (2014), While We're Young (2015), The Glass Castle (2017) as well as Luce (2019). Watts kept her acting career going by making big-budget roles, such as in Divergent (2015-2016).
